Paul Dupré Lafon was from Marseille and would regularly visit, from Paris, the southern region that he loved and where he found inspiration. His fondness for terracotta and ceramics translated into close working relationships with local artisans, notably those of Salernes, famous today for its glazed terracotta. He even tried his hand as a potter, a little-known aspect of his story.
The present very rare and most impressive table bears witness to this interest and reflects the decorator’s favoured palette of muted colours, and his predilection for the interplay of contrast in both the tactile and the visual characteristics of materials.
