'That's Jodhpur, and it's a town where the old quarter is primarily painted blue. It's a famous place because a significant part of the town is painted that same colour for reasons that nobody quite knows.
Invariably I find myself knocking on doors, trying to get on the roof of a building, or look out in somebody’s porch or terrace. And I found that, invariably, all over the world, if you explain what you are doing people are very accommodating. You are a stranger knocking on somebody’s door and in a few minutes you are inside their home, inside the bedroom, inside the living room and you are getting your picture. It all depends on how you relate to people, and on how you develop a connection with the people and bring them onto your process and have them believe in what you are doing. Kind of wonderful things happen from there' S. McCurry
