While studying at Krefelder Kunstgewebeschule, Macke and Heinrich Campendonk shared a studio space between 1906 and 1908. Helmuth Macke and his cousin, August Macke, traveled often to Munich and Tegernsee during this period and were frequently accompanied by Campendonk. On these journeys they would fraternize with Der Blaue Reiter members Wassily Kandinsky, Alexej von Jawlensky, and Franz Marc.
