The model of this vase is an exact rendering of a drawing by Emile Reiber, published in his periodical (magazine-fait moins sérieux) L'Art pour tous : Encyclopédie de l'art industriel et décoratif, 24ème année, #610, numéro du 15 novembre 1885, p.2538. The collection of Asian Art brought back in France by Henri Cernuschi, and shown at the Palais de l'Industrie during the Fall of 1873 had a decisive influence on the imagination of French artists and the outbreak of Japonisme in Paris.The model of this vase was very popular and was also produced in earthenware faience by Théodore Deck.
