Alvin W. Vogtle Jr., (October 21, 1918 – April 10, 1994)
Born in Alabama in 1918, Alvin Vogtle Jr. was a World War II fighter pilot who was also said to be the inspiration for the POW Steve McQueen character in the movie "The Great Escape." Not only did he inspire creative directorship, but he is credited with being a hugely successful President and Chairman to Southern Company, one of the biggest American gas and electric utility holding companies with its headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia.
