Autumn fowers and morning glories illuminated under a bright full moon. The blue bokashi (color grading) around the moon emphasizes the poetic atmosphere of this work.
Along with landscape print, Hiroshige is also known for his masterworks of kacho-e (prints of birds and fowers), especially in uchiwa-e (fan print) format. Uchiwa-e were produced to be mounted as fans, so only limited number of works have survived today. Most of the surviving works are believed to be originally from sample books owned by fan sellers and tend to be in early impression and good condition.
