The present Heuer Autavia is an extremely well-preserved example of an early ref. 2446 C, distinguished by the “inverse-panda” dial, plain steel hands and its slightly bigger bi-directional rotating bezel of 40.5 mm. The overall appeal is further enhanced by the period stainless steel bracelet made by the celebrated Gay Frères and the accessories, all rarities by themselves.
This ref. 2446 C represents an opportunity to own a charismatic example of this important sports chronograph. Consigned by a private collector, the watch displays a beautiful vintage look and crisp case, an immensely pleasing watch to wear and enjoy.
The reference 2446 C was launched in 1968, the “C” standing for compression case, which all had snap on case backs. They were designed to improve the water-resistance and featured a larger case than earlier models. The lugs are distinctive and massive, with bevels that are sensitive to any form of polishing.
