Born in Hangzhou in 1968, Lin Haizhong has worked as a professor in the Chinese Painting Department at the China Academy of Art since graduating with a doctoral degree in 2004. Lin’s landscapes serve as testaments to his erudition: his refined brushwork, from depicting the fine branches and to the broad sweeps of the river, reveal his mastery in emulating the classics. A river scene after a composition by the Northern Song academy artist Liang Shimin, Snowscape depicts the bare trees, the snow-covered rocks and the frozen water with a sense of oneness, a tranquil panorama through which Lin expresses a reverence for natural beauty. An educator and artist, Lin has published widely, with works in the collection of the British Museum and the National Museum of China.
