"Double Advance was an experiment, not only with light and dark but with the extreme field-of-focus blur and clarity that only a camera can produce. In this work, Bell was openly answering those who criticized the camera and the photograph as tools by saying, 'Hey...I am using the camera...Do the same thing without it if you can, but you could save a lot of time using it!'"
