The dial boasts a silver-plated by friction historical technique painstakingly finished by hand. A solid gold balance cock is elegantly catching the eye in the highly finished movement.
Only a handful of skilled artisans still master the sophisticated art of silver plating by friction today. This traditional finishing technique from the 19th century was used by the gifted Glashütte watchmaking pioneer Moritz Grossmann during his lifetime in his high-quality pendulum watches.
The dial has now been friction silver-plated by master craftsmen in Glashütte and brought into the modern era. This form of finishing creates a fine-grained yet velvety surface. It reflects the incident light without dazzling, ensuring that every minute detail of the dial can be read with ease.
Embellished with large Roman numerals, the dial also bears the original ‘M. Grossmann’ logo from 1875. Manually crafted lance-shaped hands in an annealed brown-violet hue are a nod to traditions of the past.
The balance cock is made of solid gold. True to the finest Glashütte tradition, the piece is decorated with tiny floral motifs executed by master craftsmen.
HISTORY OF THE BRAND
The timepieces of Moritz Grossmann were made in the 19th century in the small town of Glashütte in the Ore Mountains. There, in his workshop, the exceptional craftsman developed technically outstanding watch models. More than 100 years later, the watchmaker Christine Hutter in Glashütte became aware of Moritz Grossmann's legacy. In 2008, Christine Hutter founded the fine Glashütte watch Manufacture Moritz Grossmann with the name of the famous Glashütte watch pioneer. In her newly founded Manufacture, traditional craftsmanship is reinterpreted with state-of-the-art technology. The watches of the Saxon watchmaking genius and initiator of the German Watchmaking School (1878), Moritz Grossmann, are symbols of modern thinking in the form of classic, reduced design and perfect mechanics. The Manufacture stands for craftsmanship at the very highest level, combined with great history and focused on the essentials.
