Acquired by Silvia Schofield, a celebrated British author, archeologist, photographer, traveller and even an intelligence operative. During World War II Schofield worked for BBC’s secret monitoring unit, and then for the Foreign Office in its Political Intelligence Department. After the War, she travelled to India for work in Delhi. A keen historian and archeologist, she met and greatly impressed Sir Mortimer Wheeler (1890-1976), the Director General of the Archaeological Survey of India. Schofield maintained a strong affection for India, returning several times. Schofield was also a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, and wrote several mystery novels under the pename Max Mundy. She eventually retired to Spain, where she gifted this work to the present owners.
