RAREST BOTTLES FROM SAMAROLI
Libyan born Silvano Samaroli is known as the Italian bottler with an ‘incredible nose’ for spirits. Exhibiting a passion for spirits from a young age, he started out as a sales manager for a liquor store in Italy, before setting up Samaroli as his infamous Srl Wine and Spirits Merchants in Rome in 1968, as the first independent non-Scottish or English Scotch whisky bottler. Samaroli was one of the first dedicated bottlers that actively promoted cask strength whisky. Although first starting out as an importer, Samaroli built his reputation as a bottler in the 1980s, when he began bottling cask strength whiskies. Known for his belief that independent bottlers should add their own value, Samaroli pioneered many whisky processes, including no-age statement whiskies as well as the process of re-casking whisky into virgin oak casks. In fact, Samaroli created a series called ‘No Age’ running from 1992 up until 2016. Samaroli stepped down from his company in 2008, handing over the reins to Antonio Bleve after a long-standing collaboration between Bleve’s family and the Samaroli company. Silvano Samaroli died in 2008, leaving behind a legacy of world-renowned bottlings
