Organisé par Marie-Hélène et Guy de Rotschild au Château de Ferrières, le Bal Surréaliste du 12 décembre 1972 est l'un des évènements les plus mémorables des années 1970. Les convives, parmi lesquels figuraient Salvador Dali, Audrey Hepburn ou encore Hélène Rochas, étaient invités à se vêtir de 'têtes surréaliste', faisant appel à leur créativité et extravagance. Charlotte Aillaud y portait, outre le masque ici présenté, un plastron ainsi que des ornements en cuivre également réalisés par Claude Lalanne, et avait une partie de son visage recouverte à la feuille d'or.
