This vibrant yet delicate painting shows the wife of the artist, Charlotte Berend-Corinth, as she sits on a rock drying her legs. The scene takes place by the river at St. Ulrich im Grodnertal, in Tyrol, during the Corinths' second visit. Charlotte, wearing Tyrolean costume, appears unbothered by the raging stream in which she is sitting. Her husband, instead, is documented to have been much preoccupied for his wife during the painting process, exclaiming: ‘Nein, die Situation ist doch zu gefährlich, du darfst unmöglich da sitzen! (‘No, the situation is too dangerous, you can't possibly sit there!’)
