Giacomo Guardi was a prolific draftsman, producing a large number of drawings and gouaches of small format. Among his favorite subjects were views of the islands of the Lagoon as the present ones depicting the island of Giudecca with the Church of the Redentore and the island of the Certosa. This type of small view was popular among tourists who would buy them to bring home as souvenirs of Venice.
