A historic and very personal piece of Formula 1 memorabilia, this Ruthenium Octa Calendrier is number 63 of only 99 pieces made between 2001 and 2003. One of the set of 5 watches of F.P. Journe’s ‘Ruthenium Collection’, each numbered 63/99, this Octa Calendrier not only uniquely bears the initials of the present owner “J.T” on the dial but also a personal dedication on the movement rotor from Michael Schumacher.
The Octa Calendrier was François-Paul Journe’s first annual calendar wristwatch and the third complication to be integrated into the Octa automatic calibre series. The integration of an annual retrograde calendar while maintaining the dimensions of the movement was another significant horological achievement. As was the system whereby all the indications are set via the crown, without the need for extra pushers on the case band. The instantaneously advancing day and month display is self-adjusting for months with 28, 30 and 31 days, only requiring manual adjustment at the end of February only during the non-leap years. With its unique date disc with retrograde indication and a power reserve of 120 hours, there was nothing quite like the Octa Calendrier when it first appeared on the market.
This particular Octa Calendrier was specially commissioned from F.P. Journe by former World Champion racing driver Michael Schumacher to the present owner. The lustrous ruthenium-coated gold dial has been personalized with the initials of the present owner and exceptionally, the movement’s rotor has been specially engraved with a personal gift dedication and additionally with Ferrari’s emblem and symbols representing the 5 World Championship victories for Schumacher and Ferrari.
A trophy for any Journe collector and Formula 1 fan, this supremely elegant Ruthenium Octa Calendrier provides collectors with not only the opportunity to obtain one of F.P. Journe’s rare Ruthenium Collection models but to also own a unique example with incredible provenance to one of the world’s greatest ever Formula 1 Champions.
