As a child, Marc Newson assembled go-karts made of recycled objects with which he raced down the hills surrounding his home. This activity marked the beginning of his passion for Design. While the works of Marc Newson have invaded the interiors of the world, including the wrists of Apple watch users, the artist has continued to conceive all means of transport imaginable: boats, planes, bicycles, cars. These different modes of locomotion populated the exhibition of the Gagosian Gallery in New York: Marc Newson: Transport (14 September-16 October 2010). It is in this exhibition that Body jet was presented, the prototype of a jet pack or dorsal reactor designed in 2008 and produced in 2010. A child's dream, an object of a future imagined in the 1960s, updated in carbon fibre and high-tech materials, Newson follows his own motto, encouraging the designer to invent the object of tomorrow: “It is the designer who is supposed to have the crystal ball,” J. Sims, 'Designing the future: an interview with Marc Newson', Aston Martin magazine, n. d.)
This lot will be sold with its certificate of registration and its presentation brochure dated 2008.
