The design of the dotted quatrefoils on the present lot echo the motifs seen on the central cupboard doors of the 'Pericles Dressoir’ by Talbert now in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art (acc. no. 2015.281a, b) which was exhibited at the Paris International Exhibition of 1867 as the centerpiece for the stand of Holland & Sons. The flattened floral-carved capitals on the columns on the present lot can also be seen on the cabinet and in Talbert’s illustration from his 1867 publication (Metropolitan Museum of Art, acc. no. 1970.565.223.) Talbert illustrates two related octagonal tables (plates 21 and 28) each supported on four legs connected by arches with similar frieze decoration in Gothic Forms (1867).
