A superlative example of the minimalist Art Deco style adopted by some of the best Swiss makers in the 1920s and 30s. The present watch has remained in wonderful original condition, the dial featuring nicely raised hard enamel numerals and chapter ring and retaining the original lustrous surface lacquered sheen that is so appreciated by collectors. The English calendar is displayed in the three apertures beneath the chapter ring. The movement, as expected from Haas Neveux, is very high grade and stamped with the Geneva seal or Poinçon de Genève, considered the gold standard in the industry since 1886. The seal is concerned with the quality and finishing of the watch movement, although it also addresses the precision of the timekeeping mechanism. The seal is awarded to watches only after an 'official examination' to discern whether the watch movement possesses all the required characteristics required for the accolade. The characteristics require, at a minimum, that the watch was made in or made on commission by a qualified Genevoise craftsman from the City or Canton of Geneva.
