Born in Pakistan in 1926, Ahmed Parvez belongs to the partition-era vanguard of artists who fostered and developed Lahore’s Modernist scene. Participating in what was known as the Lahore Group in the 1950s, he associated with other young visionaries, like Ali Imam and Abdul Jalal Shemza. The 1950s and 60s were exciting and very productive times for Parvez. In 1955, Parvez moved to London and was invited to participate in the Bienal de São Paolo in the same year. In 1962, he was invited to exhibit his works alongside the American artist Alexander Calder at the Lincoln Gallery. Founder of the London-based collective, The Pakistan Group, Parvez was recognised early on as an eminent artist.

Parvez has exhibited at the Ashmolean Museum, the Commonwealth Institute of London, and was awarded the President’s Medal for Pride of Performance in 1978 by the Government of Pakistan.
