All four Beatles and their wives took holidays in early summer 1969, during an eight week break from the Abbey Road recording sessions. George and Pattie Harrison holidayed in Sardinia from 1 - 23 June 1969. Credited to The Beatles and Billy Preston, Get Back was the band's first single to debut on the UK singles chart at number one and would eventually become the closing track of the Beatles' final studio album Let It Be. Although the non-album single The Ballad of John and Yoko also topped the charts in the UK, it fared less well in the US, where a number of radio stations refused to play it, due to the lyrics' references to Christ and crucifixion. The song was the Beatles' last UK number one single for 54 years until the release of Now and Then in 2023.
