Originally owned by the Baron and Baroness di Portanova, Christie’s is pleased to offer this Salvador Dalí pendant. The di Portanovas enjoyed a jet-set lifestyle alternating between their homes in Italy, Texas, California and their beloved Acapulco villa, Arabesque. Lovingly devoted to each other and their global network of equally fabulous friends, the di Portanovas found pleasure in sharing every material manifestation of their wealth including property, planes, luxury automobiles, yachts, horses and jewels. Their style so encapsulated 1980s decadence and glamour that Arabesque was used as a location for the 1989 James Bond film Licence to Kill. Baroness di Portanova’s impressive jewelry collection included some of Dalí’s designs in jewels and metals. This pendant makes use of the artist’s often repeating clock motif, celebrating the fluidity of time and his ability to present traditional objects through an innovative surrealist lens.
