This limited edition watch celebrates the founding of the Republic of Brazil. Pedro II was deposed by a military coup on November 15, 1889 by Deodoro da Fonseca. The country was named the Republic of the United States of Brazil, but was later changed to Federative Republic of Brazil in 1967. The constitutional democracy remained in effect until 1930 when a military junta under the leadership of Getúlio Vargas took power. Democracy returned to Brazil in 1988 when a Federal Constitution was enacted. The coat of arms consists of a the central Southern Cross with coffee on the left and tabocco on the right. There are 27 stars surrounding the Crux, which represent the 26 states and one federal district of Brazil. The blue ribbon contains the name and date or establishment of the Federative Republic of Brazil.
