When they discovered that local restaurants were discarding good food, they responded by gathering volunteers to collect and dispense this food to needy New Yorkers in the five boroughs. Today, this simple yet smart organization has distributed more than 200 million pounds of food to a network of over 600 community programs and averages more than 57,000 pounds per day. Each week alone, City Harvest helps provide meals to more than 260,000 men, women and children and courageously battles to end hunger in New York City.

In the late 1920s, Chanel and Fulco di Verdura set out on a European tour, hoping for fresh inspiration. They visited fine jewelry museum collections and exhibitions and emerged from the tour excited about the recurring Byzantine pattern they saw. Soon after, Fulco created his revolutionary and now legendary brooch motifs, combining precious and semi-precious gemstones in asymmetrical patterns with different colors of gold. Fulco was eventually inspired to mount the brooches on a pair of cuffs he crafted for Chanel, thus defining the signature look she is most notably remembered by, and Verdura's signature motif, the Maltese Cross, came to be.
