The attribution to Ignaz Stern has been confirmed by Professor Giancarlo Sestieri who regards these works as 'notevoli rappresentative testimonianze' by the artist (written communication, June, 2007). Sestieri compares them to Stern's Flora, formerly in the Megna Collection in Rome (G. Sestieri, Repertorio della pittura romana della fine del Seicento e del Settecento, Turin, 1994, III, fig. 1036), noting that the flowers may have been painted by the artist's son Ludovico (Rome 1709-1777).
