The Christie's sale catalogue of 13 and 14 March 1856, featuring over 170 works by Henry Pierce Bone from the artist's estate, lists two miniatures of 'Parmegiano, After Parmegiano. In the Collection of Jos. Neeld, Esq.' (lots 46 and 59).
Joseph Neeld, M.P. (c. 1800-1856) used the vast inheritance bequeathed him by his uncle, the successful goldsmith Philip Rundell, to form a stunning collection of paintings. Neeld housed the collection at his No. 6 Grosvenor Square residence.
The present miniature is after Parmigianino's (1503-1540) Portrait of an Unidentified Man, possibly a collector of note, painted before 1524, now in the National Gallery, London (NG6441).
