Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster was born in Strasbourg and lives and works in Paris and Rio de Janeiro. She has come up with an extremely varied range of work ever since she started in the early nineties. It includes film projections, photography and spatial installations, but she also enters into joint ventures with fellow artists as Pierre Huyghe (F), Liam Gillick (GB) and Rikrit Tiravanija (ARG). She has worked out scenarios for the French chansonnier Christophe, designed displays for Balenciaga's fashion boutiques in New York and Paris and designed a house for a collector in Tokyo. It was a confirmation of her international recognition when she won the 'Prix Marcel Duchamp' in 2003. She has had solo exhibitions at the Museé d'Art Modern de la Ville de Paris (2006), Kunsthalle Zürich (2004), Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, Rotterdam (2003), Centre Pompidou, Paris (2002), Portikus, Frankfurt (2001). Her most important group exhibitions in which she participated were 'Skulptur Projekte Mnster' 2007, Utopia Station, the Venice Biennial (2003), the Tirana Biennial (2003), Documenta 11, Kassel (2002), Cities on the move, Louisiana Museum, Copenhagen (1999) and the Berlin Biennial (1998). In de Appel she exhibited in the group show Through the viewfinder in 1992.
