RARE LARGE FORMAT BORDEAUX AND A SOLID CASE OF '55 LA MISSION
Collectors of large format bottles know what they're doing. Whether it's mags, jeroboams, impériales or bigger, wines in these bottles tend to age slower and more gracefully due to the large volume of wine and small amount of air in the bottle. That being said, it's often difficult to find wines from those famed Bordeaux vintages ('47, '82, '89, '59, '61) in large formats. This consignor knows quite well the benefit of these big bottles and has decided to relinquish a small portion of his cellar for your drinking enjoyment. All of these wines have been meticulously stored in temperature and humidity control.
Lots 123-132.
Château Cheval-Blanc--Vintage 1947
Saint-Emilion, 1er grand cru classé (A)
Levels: one into neck, one bottom neck; two cut château embossed capsules, château and vintage branded corks clearly visible, nicked capsule cops, heavily bin soiled and heavily torn labels, Etablissements Nicolas stamped labels, deep punts
"It is not only the most impressive, famous (and expensive) '47 but is unquestionably one of the greatest wines of all timeIt was at its best at the Latner dinner: lovely bouquet; losing its positive sweetness, though very rich and powerful (14 alcohol) with a slightly tarry taste. Still impressive. . . At Spencer House, London, May 2000 *****" MB, Vintage Wine
