Gilbert Hovey Grosvenor (1875-1966), often regarded as the father of photojournalism, was President of The National Geographic Society and the first full-time editor of National Geographic Magazine from 1899 to 1954. Grosvenor is credited with having made the publication the bold chronicler of international scientific exploration that it became known as. His wife, Elsie May (1878-1974) was the daughter of Alexander Graham Bell.
