With Patek Philippe Certificate of Origin, envelope and Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with black dial and raised gold hour markers in 1943 and its subsequent sale on 6 August 1943. Furthermore delivered with the original fitted brown presentation box and 18K gold rice-grain bracelet stamped PG for Ponti, Gennari & Cie. The Genevan jewellers Ponti, Gennari & Cie. were renowned for their high quality watch bracelets and chains which were supplied to the most important watch manufacturers. Interestingly, the company's building at Rue des Vieux Grenadiers 7 in Geneva is today the home of the prestigious Museum Patek Philippe.
Without question, this watch is one of the most attractive references 130 in gold to be offered in public in recent years. Most noteworthy is the superb black lacquered dial, confirmed by the Extract from the Archives. According to research, the present reference 130 is furthermore believed to be the only example of this celebrated model known to exist to date featuring a black dial with applied gold dot and Roman numerals.
Purchased by the present owner's father in 1943, the private provenance of this reference 130 is very much reflected in its unmolested original condition. The case, hardly ever been polished if at all, is full and retains its original case proportions to the best extent, revealed by the sharp edges to lugs and the crisp gold marks. The incredibly attractive dial has naturally aged and shows harmonious discoloration in places, caused by the influence of the elements.
Preserved in a most competent manner during its nearly 70 years of existence, the watch displays that it was always treated with respect and expertise. The original certificate, envelope and box have been carefully preserved and add to the desirability of this rare timepiece.
