US$ 20,000-30,000
EUR 15,200-22,800
With Urwerk presentation box, certificate and product literature.
Urwerk was born from a meeting in 1995 between two brothers, both gifted watchmakers, Felix and Thomas Baumgartner, and their friend, a talented artist, Martin Frei. Martin Frei sketched and honed the design of the timepieces while the Baumgartners spent the next two years developing the technical aspects. Inspired by the 17th century Campanus Night clock created for Alexandre XII, the team aimed to distill timekeeping to its very essence.
This present lot, entitled The Blackbird is extremely rare and involves a sophisticated process whereby the platinum case is coated with Plasma Enhanced-Chemical Vapor Deposition treatment making it scratch-resistant and creating a startling effect when combined with the SuperLuminova markers on the dial which are yellow by day and glow in blue by night. This timepiece draws its super sleek inspiration from the world's fastest jet powered aircraft - the Lockheed SR-71.
