With Patek Philippe Certificate of Origin and Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with silvered dial and twelve applied yellow gold hour markers in 1986 and its subsequent sale on 17 July 1986. Furthermore delivered with contemporary brochure with operating instructions, wooden presentation box and outer packaging.

To the best of our knowledge, this watch has never been offered in public before and is believed to be the only example of a first series reference 3940 in yellow gold retailed by Gübelin known to date.

Reference 3940 was launched in 1985 and remained in production until 2006. The present watch is from the first series, featuring sunk subsidiary dials for the 24 hours display and leap year indicator, as opposed to the even version of later models.

Reference 3940 is illustrated in Patek Philippe Wristwatches by Martin Huber & Alan Banbery, second edition, p. 292-293.
