With Patek Philippe Certificat d'Origine et de Garantie and Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with rose dial, raised hour markers in rose gold and tachometer scale in 1939 and its subsequent sale on 18 July 1939.
The present reference 130 is a particularly fine and collector-worthy specimen thanks to several elements united. One should probably first mention the very appealing, but perhaps more importantly, extremely rare rose dial. In fact, whereas it may appear at first sight to be a typical chronograph dial with tachometre scale, one realizes at second sight that it features inside the "chemin de fer" black enamelled comma-shaped seconds or minute markings. These indexes are not only a simple addition to a standard dial but in order to allow space for them the applied gold Arabic and baton hour markers had to be moved nearer to the centre. Consequently, since its conception the dial was always intended to be completely different from a regular "one thirty" dial. In depth research reveals that this dial design was more often associated with reference 591 (see lot 232 in this auction), another remarkable chronograph reference from the same period. However, reference 591 would normally feature Roman numerals, making the present dial configuration one of only four examples known after thirty years of public auctions.
Needless to say that it is most relevant to the discerning collector that Patek Philippe's Extract confirms the sale of the watch in 1939 with rose dial. Another most appealing asset represents the original certificate which has survived in remarkably good condition for over 70 years. Collectors will also welcome the strong and ever so important original condition of all components.
Since its first appearance some ten years ago at auction, this outstanding example has remained in the possession of the same European collector and is now, for the second time only, offered to the public.
