cf. K. Tucker, et al., Gustav Stickley and the American Arts and Crafts Movement, exhibition catalogue Dallas Museum of Art, 2010, cat. nos. 35-37 for other examples of inlaid chairs produced by Stickley at this time.

This armchair is another example of the inlaid furniture produced by Stickley in 1903 and 1904. Unlike the rigidly rectilinear forms of similar chairs by contemporaries such as Frank Lloyd Wright, the Stickley chair incorporates arched seat rails that enliven the overall design. Coupled with its decorative inlay, this design is distinctive amongst its peers.
