A pair of alpaca wall-mounted uplights, with shaped reflectors on tubular uprights, by Eckart Muthesius, for the Palace of the Maharajah of Indore, circa 1930
These standing wall lights were conceived for the banquet room of the Manik Bagh palace. A contemporary photograph including two walls shows two pairs; and assuming the room was symmetrical, there were most likely four pairs in total, a supposition possibly confirmed by the annotation '8' on the original design. Two pairs came to auction in Monte Carlo in 1980 in the sale of furniture from the palace.
