AN ART DECO DIAMOND BROOCH
Europe's dialogue with the art of the Far East, which began in the early seventeenth-century, is one of the most fascinating chapters in the history of culture. The Orient - the world of myth and fairy tale - provided unlimited themes for the jeweller's imagination, finding form in the decorative arts. The period of the Art Deco in the 1920s saw some of the most beguiling jewellery ever made. The craftsmanship in this pavilion brooch is exquisite. Dominated by geometrics, the figurative architectural theme show simple and austere lines of baguette-cut diamonds and a roof tile composed of delicate mille grain collets. The attention to detail and skill of the Art Deco jeweller is a fine example of the period.
