Château Latour--Vintage 1897
Pauillac, 1er cru classé. Château-bottled
"Fin, plus léger que 1893." At the estate, Frédéric Engerer, March 2011
"Pale to medium mature red colour. Fine and elegant scented aromas with obvious sweetness and concentration, leading to rose-hips flavours with foundation of brûlée, burnt sugars. Impressive." At the estate, David Elswood, March 2011
"The 1897 Latour opened recently at the Château still showed a sweet, almost youthful fruit character with a currant fruit character given depth by notes of pepper, ginger and Chinese five spice powder. On the palate the wine is slightly phenolic, with a fair bit of tannin and body. It still has very good length, and structurally it is not dropping off at all. This wine showed none of the elderly, fusty notes that one expects from a 19th century wine. It is a real powerhouse." At the estate, Charles Curtis M. W., March 2011
"Still impressive depth of colour. Very rich and vibrant but overall firm, still with quite marked structure and tannins and a slightly drying finish. A strong scent of violets and some sweetness but the firmness and dryness make it more admirable than fun. Still going strong though!" At the estate, Jancis Robinson M. W., March 2011
