A century later we are still in awe of the Mammoths and Tryannosaurs of bygone eras; we might not be able to bring back a live specimen like Professor Challenger did, but we can add these stunning fossils to our collections. Prized for their sculptural qualities and iridescent colours, they make fabulous installations in any interior setting.

from the Devensian (110,000 to 10,000 ya) the tusks from the same specimen of a sub-adult Mammuthus primigenius, 55 inches from tip to root, polished and coated with resin, mounted on bronze stands.

The most well known of the mammoth species, the woolly mammoth was similar in size to the African elephant, but is particularly well known for their incredibly long tusks, which could reach up to 16ft (5m) long. It is thought that their tusks were used to clear the snow to reach the vegetation beneath.
