A SWISS IRON-MOUNTED WALNUT CHEST
Extraordinary, Multifaceted And Of Top Quality - 60 Years Of Collecting The core of this collection is formed by the exquisite hippic regalia, beautifully crafted stirrups, 16th to 17th century spurs and books with an equestrian topic. From here the collection evolved and grew to encompass door knockers, iron utensils, arms and armour. As each sub collection was sated a new collection was started, thus presenting a truly multi-facetted collection of decorative arts. The collection was housed in a Westphalian manor, this baroque building resting on medieval fundaments was the start of the collection. This knights manor has impressive vaulted cellars forming a fitting backdrop for the early part of the collection, whilst the elegant belle etage, with its rooms of state demanded a new chapter in the collection; enter the baroque, rococo and neo classical. In each area the best was sought out and found a place in the interior. The 300 lots now on offer here are the conclusion of 60 years of passionate collecting. This unusual chest, forming a strongbox, is typically Swiss. Several comparable examples are illustrated in T. Loertscher, Zürcher und Nordostschweizer Möbel, Zürich, 2005, nos. 17, 18, 20, 22 and 25.
