Jim Dine (b. 1935)

In the Pop tradition, tools and found objects have been a subject matter for Jim Dine's work since the early 60s. In the practice of serial imagery Dine has repeated the heart image four times, painted in heavy impasto and anchored by a hatchet in the center of the picture plane. Hearts continued to be a prime subject for Dine in a range of mediums: watercolor, oil and bronze.
Being a leading figure in radical art movements, beginning in the late 50s, including performance art of the Happenings, and Pop-Art, Dine's influence and reputation have assured his place with leading artists and Post-War American art.
