Born Michelstadt, Germany, 1944. Studied at Hochschule für Bildende Künste, Hamburg, Germany, 1963; DAAD-scholarship at Saint Martin's School of Art, London, 1971. Solo exhibitions include: Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York (travelling exhibition also presented at the Stedelijk Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven; the Nationalgalerie, Berlin; the Kunsthalle, Vienna; Tate Gallery, London and the Musée de Grenoble), 1993-95; Hayward Gallery, London, 2005; Tate Modern, London, 2009; Barbican Art Gallery, London, 2010. Winner of several awards including Piepenbrock Prize for Sculpture, Berlin, Germany, 2006 and Grande Médaille des Arts Plastiques, France, 2011. She lives in Berlin and Paris.
