Rolex's reliable Oyster Perpetual Day-Date model was introduced at the Basel Fair in 1956. The model has proved popular ever since. Reference 1803, such as the present watch, was available from the start of the 1960s until around 1978. For a short period of time in the 1970's, reference 1803 was available with colored dials that had the appearance of enamel. Known among collectors as Stella dials, they are considered highly collectible and rare. The present oxblood lacquered dial on this watch immediately catches the eye. The rarity of the piece is further enhanced by the glistening diamonds on the bezel and the dial. The watch is an upgrade of reference 1803, showcasing 46 round diamonds on the bezel.
