With unsigned and punched Rolex Guarantee, Rolex Buehlmann table card with air diving decompression table, anchor, product literature, Rolex Ref. 2100 double ended tool for bracelet removal, polishing cloth and spare, though damaged, original bezel and spare extension link. Furthermore delivered with Rolex Bexley, Kent letter and envelope dated 24 November 2008. The letter is signed by Rolex General Manager H. N. Hudson, confirming that the present watch was supplied to the COMEX Organisation on 1st August 1992 and was allocated the COMEX number 3292. The lot also is accompanied by an invoice dated 2 March 2007, a Rolex International Service Guarantee dated 18 May 2009 as well as a Rolex green presentation box and outer packaging
The present Sea-Dweller reference 16600 is rare as it is one of only approximately 200 examples that were supplied to the Compagnie Maritime d'Expertise or COMEX between 1992 and 1997, featuring a gloss tritium dial with large COMEX logo.
The watches were delivered in two series, the first including serial N, such as the present watch, with the inscriptions "Rolex" and "Comex" straight across the case back. The second series with serial U were engraved with the curved inscription.
The watch at hand correctly displays both the reference number and serial number on the inside of the back. The back itself is engraved with the issue number, in this instance 3292, as well as Rolex COMEX and the more usual inscription Rolex Oyster Original Gas Escape Valve.
Not many of the few COMEX watches that appear at auction come as complete as the present one, thus making it a highly desirable find. Complete with Guarantee, accessories, servicing evidence, a Rolex confirmation letter and box, the watch will enhance the collection of any watch aficionado or lover of deepsea diving. In fact, one of the past owners of the present watch, perhaps its second owner, was, as can be learned from the Rolex letter dated 2008, a professional diver. The letter further states that Rolex was delighted that the client had recently taken delivery of a Sea-Dweller Deep Sea and that he would be "taking it on its first commercial oilfield saturaton dive."
This is a watch for a professional diver or watch collector in love with the romanticism attached to COMEX timepieces.
