With undated Rolex original Guarantee and Rolex fitted green presentation box and outer packaging.
The present watch is an extremely attractive and rare example of the much sought after Oyster reference 6234. It features a beautiful silvered dial devoid of any technical scales, thereby rendering the watch optically cleaner and easily legible. The majority of reference 6234 watches have a dial with tachymetre or telemetre scale, sometimes both. Few watches feature a pulsation scale or no technical scale. This type of dial was reserved for the very last generation of reference 6234, shortly before the introduction of the "Pre-Daytona" reference 6238.
This reference 6234 furthermore stands out by its like new overall condition. Experts seldom see a case in such unused and unpolished condition. The serial and reference number in between lugs are as crisp as on the day, over 50 years ago, when the watch has been finished. The bezel is high and with superb definition as is the milling on the back still featuring "STAINLESS STEEL" clearly and neatly engraved. This inscription is often lost after the first or second polishing, so finding a specimen still retaining the words is a delight for any collector. Without exaggeration, there is no "better" in terms of condition.
Different examples of reference 6234 in regard to case material and dial layout are illustrated in I Cronografi Rolex - La Leggenda, Pucci Papaleo Editore, pp. 254-276, and in 100 Superlative Rolex Watches by John Goldberger, pp. 120-127.
