This work is sold with a photo-certificate from Professor Dr Manfred Reuther of the Nolde Stiftung, Seebull.

Margrit Müller inhereted her interest in art from her parents, Ernst and Gustel Pfänder, neé Lock. They had married in the 1930s and lived in in Nürtingen, Germany. While after the war Ernst Pfänder looked after his hosiery business 'Palo' in Baden-Württemberg, Gustel became interested in art and first started buying in Stuttgart. Soon she travelled throughout Germany and to Switzerland to pursue her interest and to buy works of art. She befriended many dealers and artists with whom she maintained a close relationship and supported them with frequent purchases or helped with contacts and introductions. In the early 1950s she visited Emil Nolde in Seebüll where she acquired the present watercolour directly from the artist.
