八十年代後便移居紐約的劉丹,在他的藝術之路上仍鑽研傳統,以對水墨之探索為其創作語言。太湖石這一中國古有的精神象徵和文化符號,在劉丹的畫中延續著文人墨客的風雅,更延伸出當代藝術觀獨有的結構和質感美。傳統在劉丹的筆下展示著變換的形態與可能性,卻保持著雋永不變的韻味。 太湖石于古代文人雅士,乃道德的標榜、心靈的寄託。北宋郭熙曾論:“石者,天地之骨也,骨貴堅深而不淺露。太湖石自然形成,姿態奇特,似天山靈芝也如出岫之雲。百洞千壑,三山五嶽,盡在其中。” 文人供石以欣賞、自省,而劉丹以詳盡的皴擦點染,將石頭的各個角度在畫中展現給觀者。近看畫面,細節處仿佛包含著另一個宇宙的山水。劉丹的筆下,石頭原有的抽象美的形態得到最大化的展現。細緻的光影變化、富有動態的扭曲、以及和諧的比例,藝術家以成熟的技法表達奇石的精神內涵。 “石雖不能言,許我為三友”是唐代詩人白居易表達對太湖石的喜愛之情的名句。劉丹畫中的石頭,也正如同沉默的友人一般,展現著宇宙變換的奧妙,滌蕩著觀者的心靈。
