Born in Guangzhou in 1945, Leung Kui Ting moved to Hong Kong at the age of three. At 19 he practised Chinese painting under Lui Shou Kwan and later he studied graphic design under Wucius Wong. In 1975, Leung went to the United States to study western art, during which his understanding of different schools of painting, such as Impressionism, was greatly deepened.
Leung Kui Ting has experimented with multiple media and techniques since the 1960s, including ink, oil, woodcut and sculpture, but he has focused on painting with ink since the end of the 1980s. In his landscape works, Leung puts together concepts of tradition and modernity through combining traditional brushwork and geometric lines that symbolize our present world. Leung not only manifests nature's physical forms, but he determines to show the landscapes in all their abstractness, a state of existence connected to the "Tao" in Chinese philosophy.
