Shintaro Ohata was born in Hiroshima in 1975. He is known for his techinique combining both sculptures and paintings in one work. As such, he combines both two-dimensional and three-dimensional practice, blended so flawlessly in colour and texture that they create a single cinematic image. His typical subject is a young girl lingering alone in an urban setting at different times of day, often from morning to sundown and through the night. Each scene allows viewers to imagine a different story and creates distinctive mood, evoking feelings of endearing childhood nostalgia which can be universally understood. He captures a moment in everyday life and imbues it with cinematic drama. In doing so, he offers a way in which to appreciate ordinary lives as precious, fragile and beautiful. His unique practice has made him an increasingly sought after up-and-coming Japanese contemporary art artist. His major group exhibitions includes ZIPANGU, which traveled at Niigata Bandaijima Art Museum, Niigata, Takasaki Museum of Art, Gunma, and Akita Museum of Modern Art, Akita, in 2012-13.
