CASE: profusely cast with rocaille, shells and foliage, surmounted by a figure of Pierrot, with Harlequin and Columbine below beside a palm tree, struck with the 'C' couronné poinçon, originally with further elements; DIAL: white enamel dial with Roman and Arabic chapters pierced gilt hands and blued-steel alarm hand, signed COURTOIS HGER DU ROY / A PARIS; MOVEMENT: single-barrel movement with pull-wind alarm function, signed Courtois a Paris

The 'C' couronné poinçon was a tax mark applied to alloys containing copper, between March 1745 and February 1749.

Jean-Pierre Courtois (d. Paris 1772), Ouvrier libre (1757) and appointed Marchand Horloger Privilegie du Roi suivant le Cour on 13 September 1765. He was the son of Jean-Baptiste, clockmaker.
