更多詳情
Malick Sidibé's candid photographs of young people in Bamako in the 1960s and 1970s have greatly increased our awareness of the cultural transformations taking place in Africa in the second half of the 20th century. Many of his images were made after curfews were imposed as parties were not deemed appropriate by conservative Malian culture. Music liberated young Africans who, for the first time, were able to get physically close to each other. It was such a powerful moment that Sidibé was invited to up to four parties in any one evening, simply to document these encounters.
